ST. THOMAS
St. Thomas is one of the four US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, a tourist destination for cruise ships and vacationers that come for shopping, dining, sailing and water sports. TheCoolestCarib.com introduces you to some of the island's established services.

Having your own transport is easy and cheaper in the long run. For Jeep Wranglers go to Rentamotion or all other cars at Budget. Ensure you make your reservations in advance.

Regarding accommodation, the centrally located Hotel1829 is only ten minutes' drive from the airport and walking distance from the main shopping area downtown. Hotel1829 is reasonably priced and offers free historic walking tours to their guests.

If you're planning to visit St. Thomas as a group or arranging a company outing, Premier Destination Services will arrange everything from transport, accommodation to tours. And if you're coming by boat Virgin Port Services will facilitate your visit.

Once you've arranged your accommodation and transport, how about planning for some water sports? Paddle surfing is the latest fad and could be arranged with Rentamotion, the same company that rents out paddle boats, kayaks jeeps, scooters and motorbikes. For snorkelling, swimming and catamaran sailing lovers The VI Cat has it all plus they also do luncheons and sunset cocktail trips.

Did someone mention food and drinks? In the heart of Charlotte Amalie, downtown, you'll find the open air stylish Spanish restaurant Amalia Café, also open for supper. If you're in a rush, Pita Express, next to Amalia Café, does the trick. And for a quick - or a long - drink, look out for the open air American style circular bar in the same passage.

For fine dining, a wide variety of wine, locally brewed beer and awesome piano entertainment make your booking at North Side Bistro. Freddie Rabuse, the charming, piano crooner performs at North Side Bistro on Friday and Saturday evenings.

To see some historical sites of St. Thomas, explore Blackbeard's Castle that offers an historic walking tour you can undertake at your own pace. Blackbeard's Castle is a 10 minute walk from downtown, located behind Hotel1829, and remember to contact them in advance.

Don't fear falling in love with St. Thomas. And, in fact, you may want to get married on this paradise island. Island Sweet Stuff will create and bake the most memorable cake and will direct you to the best wedding planners on the island.

Now that you've decided to move to St.Thomas and want to get your stuff over as quickly as possible HB Florida Export may be of assistance.

Last but not least, have your website created and managed by the reputable gandor.tv

Enjoy your stay!

::::: Brief History
The island was originally settled around 1500 BC by the Ciboney people. They were later replaced by the Arawaks and then the Caribs. Christopher Columbus sighted the island in 1493 on his second voyage to the "New World". The Dutch West India Company established a post on Saint Thomas in 1657. The Danish conquered the island in 1666, and by 1672 had established control over the entire island through the Danish West India and Guinea Company. The land was divided into plantations and sugar cane production became the primary economic activity. In 1691 the primary settlement there was renamed Charlotte Amalie in honor of the wife of Denmark's King Christian V. It was later declared a free port by Frederick V. While the sugar trade had brought prosperity to the island's free citizens, by the early 19th century Saint Thomas was in decline. The continued export of sugar was threatened by hurricanes, drought, and American competition. In 1917 St. Thomas was purchased (along with Saint John and Saint Croix) by the United States for $25 million in gold as part of a defensive strategy to maintain control over the Caribbean and the Panama Canal during the First World War.

ST. JOHN
St. John is the smallest of the three US Virgin Islands. While the other US Virgin Islands are hustling and bustling, St. John is very laid back. Although it's only three miles from St. Thomas, it is vastly different in spirit and human interaction.

TheCoolestCarib.com will soon introduce you to some of the island's established services.

::::: Brief History
St. John was first settled by the Arawak Indians who had migrated north from coastal Colombia and Venezuela around AD 300. The Arawaks inhabited the island until around the year AD 1300, when they were driven off by the more aggressive and warlike Carib Indians. Extensive archaeological work has been undertaken from 1996 to the present at Cinnamon Bay. Christopher Columbus is the first European to see the Virgin Islands during his second voyage to the New World in 1493. He named the island group "Once Mil Virgenes", or Eleven Thousand Virgins, in honor of the feast day of Saint Ursula and the 11,000 virgins who were martyred with her. The Danish West India and Guinea Company represented the first Europeans to settle the island in 1718. They are also credited with naming the island St. John (Danish: Sankt Jan). The Danish crown took full control of the colony in 1754, along with St. Thomas and St. Croix. Sugar plantations, such as the famous Annaberg Sugar Plantation, were established in great numbers on St. John because of the intense heat and fertile terrain, which provided ideal growing conditions. It is estimated that by 1775, slaves outnumbered the Danish settlers by a ratio of 5:1. Slavery was finally abolished in St. John on 3 July 1848. In 1917 the United States purchased the U.S. Virgin Islands for $25 million from the Danish government in order to establish a naval base whose purpose was to prevent German expansion in the Western Hemisphere. The U.S. Virgin Islands are an organized, unincorporated territory of the United States. U.S. Virgin Islanders are . Since 1972, they have elected their own governor. They enjoy a large degree of self-rule through a local 15-seat legislature that covers all three of the islands. In 1956, Laurance Rockefeller donated most of the land he had acquired on the island to the United States' National Park Service, under the condition that it must be protected from future development.
